Solo and Ensemble Competition

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, many orchestra students participated in the regional Solo and Ensemble competition at Rock Hill High School. Students of all instruments performed different levels of pieces of three classifications: Class One (most difficult), Class Two (medium difficulty), and Class Three (least difficult).

Every student solo or ensemble was scored with a rating between one to three, with one being the highest rating and three being the lowest. Those who performed a piece in Class One division from memory were eligible to continue onward to the state-level competition, but only if they received a 1 rating.

In total, thirty-four solos were rated a one, nine solos were rated a two, ten solos were rated a three, and two ensembles were rated a one.

Every student practiced for many hours in preparation for the competition, and Reedy Orchestra congratulates all those who participated.

Socials

Hot Chocolate Bar

From 8:15-9:00 am on December 16, Reedy Orchestra gave students hot chocolate in the Orchestra room. Orchestra Officers helped create the hot chocolate with the use of whip cream, marshmallows, and more. It was a perfect way to wake up for the day on the last week of school before Winter Break!

White Elephant Winter Social

On December 16, 2021, Reedy Orchestra hosted a White Elephant winter social. Students brought in fun gifts and trinkets like candy, blankets, and more. All gifts were placed in the middle of the room and one by one, students chose and traded each other for them.

It was an extremely fun social attended by many. Upper-classmen had the event in the auditorium while lower-classmen had it in the Orchestra room. Many gifts including speakers, LED lights, and ornaments were traded and given away in this fun social!

Officer Secret Santa

On December 17, 2021, orchestra officers came together for a secret Santa. Each officer was paired with another officer and given their gift wish list. Along with giving each other these secret gifts, officers were told to create a riddle for the officer to identify who had them for Secret Santa. It was a fun night and a great way to wrap up the end of the first semester!

Movie Night

On January 21, 2022, Reedy Orchestra hosted a movie night from 4:30-6:30. Students watched Kung Fu Panda and enjoyed hanging out with fellow students in the auditorium. Many brought snacks and desserts and stayed late due to a few unexpected technical difficulties. It was a great and enjoyable event that many attended!

Fundraising/Donations

Fan Pledges

To raise money for Reedy Orchestra, students were encouraged to find 20 contacts willing to support students in Reedy Orchestra through donations. Then, on Wednesday, December 8 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, the live Fan Pledge event took place where students got in touch with their contacts to ask for donations.

Reedy Spirit Day

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Reedy Orchestra invited all students to support Reedy Orchestra by ordering from Chick-fil-A on 423 in Frisco. Students had to mention Reedy Orchestra while making the purchase to give Reedy Orchestra a donation of 20%.

Chocolate Sales

For a few months, students, especially those attending the Orchestra Disney trip, were encouraged to sell about three chocolate boxes to obtain fundraising money. Each chocolate box included 60 chocolates, each sold at one dollar.

The chocolate sales closed on Friday, January 7, 2022, and a lot of Reedy Orchestra fundraising money was made!

Donation Drive

Reedy Orchestra hosted a donation drive for the Dallas Metro Relief recently. Students were encouraged to bring items from January 18, 2022, to January 21, 2022. Then, students helped pack the items in bags before school and during advisory on January 24, 2022.

These items included shampoo/conditioner, bar soap, toothbrushes/toothpaste, deodorant, soap, and other necessary products. Every five items donated equaled one service hour, and we thank all the students who helped bring items and package them!
