Congratulations to the following Reedy Orchestra students on their placement into one the TMEA All-State Orchestras:
-Clara Kim (9) | All-State Symphony Orchestra Violinist
-Andrew Choi (11) | All-State Symphony Orchestra Cellist
-Kevin Wang (12) | All-State Pianist
Making a TMEA All-State ensemble is one of the highest individual achievements a Texas student musician can achieve. Incredibly, Andrew and Clara were both accepted into the highest-ranked All-State Orchestra.
A bit of background information about this competition:
The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students' dedication to their musical knowledge and skill. Each year, approximately 1,700 students are selected through a process that begins with more than 68,000 students from around the state vying for the honor to perform in one of 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs). Orchestra ends their All-State selection process first – band and choir are still on-going at the moment.
This competitive process begins with auditions hosted by 33 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in seven TMEA Area competitions. For orchestra, students named to their top All-Region Orchestra submit their recordings directly to the state, where they are judged against all other orchestra students from across Texas to determine Area and All-State honors.
Clara, Andrew, and Kevin have earned the privilege of participating in rehearsals and performances directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the annual state TMEA Clinic/Convention, scheduled this year for February 14-17, 2018 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
Congratulations again to these outstanding orchestra musicians!
